3. How we use your information

4. Cookies

We offer a free browser extension, "Free VIN Decoder & Recall Checker — CarfaxDeals," that lets you decode a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and check for open safety recalls. This section explains how the extension handles information.
- No personal information collected. The extension does not collect, store, or transmit your name, email address, browsing history, or any other personal information. It requires no account and no sign-in.
- Local processing. When the extension detects a VIN on a page or you enter one manually, that VIN is processed locally in your browser.
- Public NHTSA data only. To show you decode and recall results, the extension sends the VIN (or the decoded make, model, and year) to the official public APIs of the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) at vpic.nhtsa.dot.gov and api.nhtsa.gov. No other servers receive this data.
- Local storage for convenience. The extension may store the last VIN you entered on your own device so you don't have to retype it. This never leaves your browser and can be cleared by removing the extension.
- No tracking or analytics. The extension contains no advertising, tracking pixels, or analytics of any kind.
- Minimal permissions. The extension requests only the permissions needed to detect VINs on the page you are viewing and to query the NHTSA APIs.
If you choose to click through from the extension to order a full vehicle history report on our website, the information practices described elsewhere in this policy then apply.
9. Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete the personal data we hold about you, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, email support@carfaxdeals.us from the address used on your order. We respond within 30 days.
10. Children's privacy
Our service is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes take effect when posted on this page, with the "Last updated" date revised accordingly.
